PAUL BOWEN
Organist & Acting Director of Music

Paul Bowen is a Yorkshireman, and developed a keen interest in the organ when in his teens he was a regular attendee at recitals in York Minster. During his time as an undergraduate at the University of Leeds, where he read mathematics and operational research, he served as organ scholar at Leeds Parish Church, as well as being the Edward Boyle Organ Scholar in the University of Leeds. Paul holds a MMus in Organ Performance from the University of Leeds, where he studied under Professor Graham Barber and Dr Simon Lindley.

His main duties involve playing the organ for all the main services, and being a regular recitalist in the cathedral’s prestigious lunchtime series. A commercial CD recording of Paul playing the cathedral organ is due for release in the second quarter of 2012.

As part of his work with the choir and as soloist, Paul has played in most of the cathedrals in the UK, and has accompanied the choir on numerous tours, most notably to Canada and Germany. Paul has broadcast on live television, and also on BBC radio.

Paul is a keen supporter of the organ music of Paul Fisher, and was delighted to take part in the world premiere performance of a major work for organ and clarinet entitled "Name-Play." Additionally, Paul has given first performances of other works composed by Paul Fisher, including the Scherzo for Organ, and Variations on Happy Birthday.
