"HOPE IN THE CITY"

2008 Major Lecture Series at The Cathedral

As part of the Hope08 initiative (www.hope08.com) we hope to re-inspire the communities, and particularly young people, of this complex city of Bradford with new hope for the future. This programme of lectures draws upon the insights of people with national and international reputations, who reflect upon contemporary society and the nature of hope from a range of faith and secular perspectives. The speakers will motivate and encourage the many who work for change in the city, within the Council, the media, faith communities, NGOs and other agencies:

To inspire those working with people with little or no hope;
To think outside the box about a central aspect of human flourishing;
To strengthen civic life by offering the opportunity for thoughtful engagement with the state we are in;
To offer the opportunity to develop supportive networks;
To deepen appreciation of the positive contribution of religion and faith to human well-being.

As you can see, most of the Cathedral Lectures will be on the 8th of the month, starting at 8pm - 8 lectures in total for Hope 08! Please put these dates into your 2008 diaries and do support the series if you possibly can. Admission is free; refreshments will be served before and after each lecture; and there will be a short presentation from a different youth organisation based in the City immediately prior to the start of each lecture.

The launch on 14th January will be particularly worthy of your support - it would be great to have a big crowd here for this 'triple header' featuring the Bishop, the Council's Chief Executive and a leading representative from the local Muslim community - all major 'influencers' in our City. Their views on the way ahead for Bradford are bound to be both interesting and perhaps provocative. With the speakers only confirmed relatively recently and the busy Christmas season we haven't had a lot of time to publicise this, so your help and prayers are much appreciated. The evening start at 7.30pm with refreshments both before and after the event …
